11/15/08:

To Pack 235 Parents:

We are gearing up for the preparation of the Blue and Gold Banquet

and there are some specific areas we really need some volunteers

to begin work on. We are especially looking for volunteers from

TIGER, WOLF, AND BEAR dens to come on board and learn the process

of getting ready for this big Party, as us “old-timers” will be

moving on soon. We want to pass on our knowledge & experience so

Pack 235 will continue to get better every year! However, anyone

who can help will be welcome!

We are forming up the Blue & Gold committee and the jobs are:

*SOLICIT DONATIONS: In keeping the Blue & Gold Banquet as

affordable as possible, we attempt to get donations of either

cash, products or services useful to the B&G usually from local

business. If you have any experience with this, we could really

use your help, or if you want to learn, we want you too. We

really need 2 or more people to begin Soliciting for donations

asap.

*If you can help, please call me, Karen Dobrenen, as soon as

possible.

PROGRAMS: Help plan, then type, print and assemble the programs.

We could use 1-2 people for this.

TABLE DECORATIONS & SIGNS: Help plan, make and bring to the

event. We could use 1-2 people for this.

BANQUET ROOM RESEARCH: I could use 1 other person to help find a

suitable room.

ROOM DESIGN: We could use 1 person to help committee decide and

obtain needed items for the room.

DO OTHER VOLUNTEER SIGN-UPS: We could use 1-2 people to help get

more volunteers as needed. Doing this in person at the pack

meetings is helpful.

So, these are the “jobs” needed to get the committee started. As

things progress, we might need help in other areas. Some of you

have already indicated interst to Robin Perkins, so if you are

able please call or attend the meeting listed below. If we

haven’t heard from you yet and are interested or even if you just

want to sit in on some meetings to learn the process for taking on

future B&G’s - please attend the meeting listed below. If you

can’t make it - please call me with your interest and we’ll work

things out. Again, handing down the knowledge is the best way to

preserve our great pack and this pack runs on GREAT VOLUNTEERS.

The first volunteer committee meeting will be Sun, 11/23 at 7pm at

my house: We will be in the backyard, so bring a sweater if it’s

chilly.

Dear Parents and Leaders,

It’s once again that time of year when the Pack has to pay its rechartering dues to the Orange County Boy Scout Council.  We will be collecting rechartering dues for the 2009 Scouting year at tonight’s Pack Meeting.

The 2009 recharting fee for Tigers, Wolves, Bears and Webelos I is $60.00

The 2009 rechartering fee for Webelos II is $29.00

Please remember to bring your check book to the Pack Meeting.

Also, we will be selling a slice of pizza and lemonade for $1.50 at tonight’s pack meeting.

Thanks,  Robin Perkins   Pack 235 Committee Chair

Dear Parents,

Our annual Blue and Gold Dinner is right around the corner.  For our new Scouts and Parents, a Blue and Gold Dinner is held each year in February to celebrate the birthday of Scouting.  The Blue and Gold Dinner is a family event.  It’s a chance for family, siblings and Grandparents to gather and to see what their Scout has been doing with their Den.  The Blue and Gold Dinner is also when our Webelos II (5th grade) boys bridge into Boy Scouting and boys who have earned the Arrow of Light award are honored.  The Arrow of Light is one of the highest awards in Cub Scouting.

The Blue and Gold Dinner takes a small army of volunteers to pull it off.  We have three moms who have signed up to help out with this event but we could use more.  If you like planning parties, have connections to banquet rooms, catering companies, local restaurants, party supplies or just want to help out we could use you.  We need to start planning now.  Please e-mail, call or talk to me at next weeks Pack Meeting if you can help out.

Thanks,   Robin Perkins     (714) 505-3714

Dear Parents and Scouts,

I can’t believe November is already here!  Pack 235 has a few events on the calendar for November and December.  Here are some of the details.

Saturday, November 8th – Scouting for Food

Please see Becky Milton’s e-mail regarding Scouting for Food for full details.  There are two ways to participate in Scouting for Food.  One - collecting food in your neighborhood.  Two - helping collect food at Albertson’s with other boys from our Pack on Saturday.  This is an important service project for Orange County Scouts.  The Second Harvest Food Bank needs our help more than ever this year.

Wednesday, November 12th – Pack Meeting

Friday, December 5th - Caroling

Well, its official, the holiday season is just around the corner!  To help start the season off right Pack 235 will be doing their annual Holiday Caroling at Sunrise Assisted Living in Tustin This is an event to be enjoyed by the entire family.  Please bring the family for a fun night of caroling and pizza.

Time:   6:00pm at Sunrise Assisted Living at Tustin

Where: Sunrise Assisted Living at Tustin

12291 Newport Ave., Santa Ana, CA 92705

www.sunriseseniorliving.com   (714) 544-5959

 Followed by Pizza at:

Lamppost Pizza   17391 17th St., Tustin, CA 92780   www.lamppostpizza.com   (714) 669-1111

*Lamppost has asked that we call ahead with our pizza orders.  Please let Lamppost know that you are with Cub Scout Pack 235 and ask for our 15% discount.

HELP!   I need your help with this event.  I need a parent to lead the caroling.  I would love to find a parent or parents who can play the guitar or a musical instrument to accompany the caroling.

We are trying something new this year.  Our Webelos I & II boys (4th and 5th grade) will be working with the residence of Sunrise on a holiday craft and our Tigers, Wolves and Bears will be singing.

Please RSVP to me (Robin) for this event.  I would like to get an idea of how many Webelos we will have for the craft and how many Tigers, Wolves and Bears we will have for caroling.

Saturday, December 6th and 7th – Toys for Tots

Nov 3

Hi Pack 235 Families,

This week is Scouting for Food Collection week for the Second Harvest Food Bank.  Scouts may participate in two ways: 1. by collecting food around their neighborhood and turning it in to my house by this Friday, Nov 7th. or  2. By helping to collect food in front of Albertson's on Saturday, Nov 8th.

  1. You can use the bags distributed to you by your Den Leader and drop the food at my house at any time this week up to Friday, 11/7. Be sure the scout's name is clearly on the bags somewhere so they can get credit for their patches.  The food is not required to be in the collection bags, any bags/boxes are fine.  Nothing perishable or glass.
  2. You can sign up with me to collect food in front of Albertson's (Newport & 1st Street) on Sat, 11/8.  Our pack has the 1-3pm time slot.  We need at least 3 boys for each hour, but we don't want a mob.  First come, first served.

Our address is 49 Statehouse Place, Irvine

VERY Important Change for Sat:  If you want to drop off food on Sat to me, you need to bring it to the Albertson's location betwen 9-12 or 1-3.   Do Not Bring it to my house on Sat.  No one will be there to collect it.

(On Sat only, food may also be dropped off at one of the Collection Day Drop-Off Sites. They are the LDS Church parking lots @ 674 South Yorba, Orange or 23 Lake Street, Irvine.  You will need to let me know on Sat. you dropped off food so I can get your patches.)

If anyone has questions, wants to sign up for Sat or needs directions or more bags, please contact me at becky_milton@pacbell.net or 714-731-4542 hm.  (Cell for Sat) 714-420-1681.

I hope we can get great participation for this community service this year!

Becky Milton :)
